What do modern business leaders have in common with the Ancient Egyptians?
The Ancient Egyptians believed that a pharaoh could die twice, once when his body died and again if his name ceased to be mentioned. In modern times we have a similar desire for legacy.
To leave the world in a better place than we found it. To create ideas and inventions that make life better for generations ahead. To have made a contribution. To me, this is a similar notion to wanting to be remembered.
But why is this relevant in business?
Because most business owners, entrepreneurs and senior corporate leaders I meet are driven towards their personal vision for the future. They know they need to bring people with them towards a meaningful goal to create this positive impact.
If your current role is too narrowly defined for you to express your potential or you don’t have clarity on your objectives, you’re less likely to be able to make a useful contribution. This could be the reason you’re feeling called to spread your wings and do something different.
Or to lean into your leadership role with more energy to create the impact you know you can.
P.S. The London Saatchi Gallery has a Tutankhamun exhibition on right now - worth a visit. As you can tell, it inspired me!
