Quit complaining
How would it feel to be in control of your thoughts?
To be the calm, measured person in the office who doesn't react to the latest drama.
The person who can quickly switch from office to home mode, without bringing stress home with them.
Sounds good to me.
Creating a positive thought isn't hard, but consistently maintaining positive thoughts can be.
If you want to feel happy and content in your day to day life (who wouldn't) there are tools you can use to stay that way. This week, we're talking about complaining. Yep. You know, those comments you make about the queue in the coffee shop, that piece of work your colleague should have finished and hasn't, that late noticeurgent e-mail that just appeared in your inbox.
I don't mean you shouldn't challenge people or give feedback when something needs improving. I'm saying try to stop your inner monologue getting stuck dwelling negatively on things that are annoying you and stop generally 'having a moan'.
Having negative thoughts circulating around your mind will ruin your mood and your day. You can choose to think positively instead.
I was at an event on Saturday where one of the speakers was Jessica Huie MBE, owner of a PR firm to famous clients. She was talking about her personal journey as an entrepreneur ahead of the launch of her book.
She shared an idea to help us stop complaining. Get a band/ bracelet to wear around your wrist and start a 30 day no complaining challenge. If you verbalise a complaint, you fail. You switch the band/ bracelet to your other wrist and start the 30 days again.
The purpose of the band is just to remind you. Most people get stuck at days 1 and 2 for a week or more. But after that see improvement in their thought patterns.
This is because wearing the band and starting the challenge means you're more conscious of what you're verbalising. When you're more aware what you're saying, you become more aware what you're thinking. When you notice what you're thinking, you can start to adjust what you're thinking. You interrupt a negative thought before it even fully forms.
Et voila, a more positive mindset that you've purposefully curated.
Interesting, right?
I'm going to give it a go. And I'd like some company. If you hit reply saying 'I'm in' I'll help keep you accountable with a separate weekly note and share how we're all getting on. Challenge set !! Lets do this.
