Check you haven't got the wrong motivators --->
Which of these drivers is strongest for you - being happy, or not being sad?
While this may sound like the same thing, I promise it’s not.
The goal of happy or ‘not sad’ may be similar, but the energy and actions required to reach the goal are very different.
If you’re trying to be happy you may take actions like:
• Spending time with people you love
• Doing fun things
• More of your favourite pastime/ hobby
If you’re trying to be ‘not sad’ you may take actions like:
• Staying quiet so you don’t provoke a reaction in others
• Relying on other people for a mood boost
• Overeating
Do you see how your motivation/ driver impacts your behaviour and actions? To me, taking action to be happy looks a whole lot less effort than avoiding sadness.
Here are some career goal re-frames that could help you out:
• I must get a new job now -->
I'd love a new role that's more creative
• My boss should value me more -->
How am I demonstrating the value I create to my boss
• I want a pay rise -->
I'll assess my market value and have a conversation with my boss about how to move towards that
So whatever your current goals are, look at the energy that surrounds them. Is it a stressy, striving or running ‘away’ type energy? Or a peaceful, positive ‘towards’ type energy?
This is a perfect time of year to check in and get ready for H2. Take some time to yourself in the next week and create positively framed goals.
Look at what you can edit in your motivation to reach goals with more ease. I'd love to hear what you'll be working on for the rest of the year - hit reply and let me know.
P.S. Our motivators have a big impact on the way we behave and work towards our goals. It's much easier if we work from a place of positivity vs. fear/ stress.
And remember to celebrate what you've already achieved this year :).
