If you ever think you can't do it...

Can you think of something you want to happen? (I can think of a few...)

Something at home or work that would make you happy or create a feeling of progress.

Maybe you're on the verge of admitting what it is but you're unsure you'll be able to make it happen.

Maybe you want to...
build an extension
find a more fulfilling role
get paid more
book an exciting holiday
progress your career.

The feeling of knowing what you want and being nervous about your ability to do it is common. Some people can get trapped in that feeling, causing inaction, stopping them reaching their goals.

Here's a powerful way to remind yourself that you can achieve what you want.

Remember when you wanted what you currently have.

Hold that thought.

It's worth repeating to yourself, slowly. Remember when you wanted what you currently have.

At some point, you wanted to be where you're currently at. Everything starts with a decision 'I want x'. You then must have taken action to make it happen.

Right?!

So if you're currently a Senior Manager or Director, think back to when you wanted the role. It may have appeared unachievable, a wild hope for the future. Even if you started with bold confidence, you would have taken action to get what you wanted. Approached the right stakeholders, built the right capability, interviewed well etc.

You did it. You got the job you wanted.

Or if you're thinking about building an extension and it feels like the finances and plans are out of reach, think back to when you wanted the house in the first place. You got it. You raised the money, you dealt with the stress, you did the legal docs, you engineered moving your life.

You did it. You got the house you wanted.

If you've done it before, of course you can do it again.

The next time your grand idea feels difficult or unlikely, remember when your current situation was a fleeting possibility. You've made it happen. You can continue to make the things you want happen.

So celebrate your success and use that energy to drive you towards your next goal - you've got this.

Wishing you all the best
