When you know what you want, these 3 magical things will happen
1) You'll be happier.
You plan your work and home life around the tasks, activities and experiences that make you happy. For example, I love creating. Creating talks, blogs, courses, content. I know this energises me, so I'll plan my working days to make sure I get time to be creative
2) You will build a reputation for being excellent at something.
What do people go to you for? Why do they walk half way across the office and past 100 other people to get to your desk? There's something that you're an expert in or a skill that you have that's attracting people to you. People will be making judgements about you, so it makes sense to give them something you want to be judged on - something you know is excellent.
3) Your next role will become easier to get.
When you're known for a particular skill, people will seek you out. Bosses who move on to other roles will offer you a new job with them. Contacts who leave for other firms will remember you. Your reputation will precede you.
And through no additional effort (because you're enjoying yourself anyway) you're becoming more employable every day as you hone and refine that skill.
Having a skill that you're excellent at gives you an advantage. What are you better at than anyone else? Hit reply and let me know.
