Feeling overwhelmed? This will help
Lets talk about some of the things that we may be finding overwhelming:
- The news
- Our social media feed
- Too much 'helpful' information
- People suggesting all the things we could be doing with our (allegedly) free time
- Seeing other people accomplishing lots of stuff
- Managing a full household
- Worrying about the well-being of friends & family
etc, etc, etc…
Also, lets look at the flip perspective. Maybe you're feeling the opposite. Maybe you're feeling excited and energetic. In reality, what's more common is periods of time where we feel good and others when we don't. When world events are chaotic and unpredictable, the systemic risk is higher and it becomes more common that we feel uneasy.
So here are some ways to manage a feeling of overwhelm if and when it does appear:
1) remind yourself the feeling is temporary - it will pass
2) become aware of your stress triggers and how it feels just before you reach overwhelm. Noticing early warning signs means you can intervene early to calm your state in whatever way works for you (e.g. rest)
3) optimism with a plan - blind optimism is hard to maintain, but a feeling of optimism combined with action can create continued positive momentum
4) creating an interim purpose. In the midst of uncertainty, what previously gave us a sense of purpose in our day to day lives could be distorted or no longer possible - so choose a new north for the short term.
These are 4 resilience tactics that will help return you to a resourceful mindset. I’m interested to hear how you are and which of these ideas creates most impact for you over coming weeks.
P.S. When you're ready to work with me, there's 2 ways you can currently do this: 1) a 2 hour breakthrough NLP session or 2) a 4 session coaching programme over 2 months. All phone based.
