The answer is almost always in the room
Whatever question you have, you know someone who can answer it.
It's always easier than we think.
For example:
- I wonder what it would be like to work at XYZ firm - I bet you know someone who does
- Would a promotion make life more stressful - you know someone you can ask
- How can I get a higher performance grade - ask your boss
- How do I win more client business - ask a peer who's above target
- Need additional resource for a project - tap up your internal network/ ask the grads
It's easy to feel like we're stuck and get frustrated. But the reality is you know someone who can help.
Start close to home and work your way outwards. We often overlook our talented inner circle.
Try this exercise - write down the skills of your best friends, your boss, your close contacts at work. What are they better at than anyone else?
Take a look at the list - so many smart, well connected people you could go to for advice.
Plus there's all the people they know too.
Or if you're thinking that your inner circle isn't looking particularly well connected or useful to your future aspirations in business or life, it could be time for a re-vamp.
Think about some areas of interest and start to build new connections. None of my friends were entrepreneurs 3 years ago - now I have lots of entrepreneurial friends, because I understood the importance of spending time with people who would be part of that particular journey.
So leverage your network, and keep building!
P.S. If you're looking to make a career move, the easiest way to do that is by leveraging your network. I have a free audio and workbook you can download here for a step by step guide.
