Surrounding yourself with inspiring people

The people around you have a significant impact on your view of the world.

You've probably heard the phrase that you're worth (earning) the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with. Does that ring true for you? That's great if they're pushing you upwards, but not if they're holding you back.

In December I spent 5 days at a mastermind event led by my coach in Los Angeles. This was a milestone for me - the first international business trip funded by my coaching business - whoop whoop!!

Check out the view from our mastermind apartment in the Malibu mountains and the fab Santa Monica beach sunset :)

In these surroundings it is no surprise my mind would be blown! I learned a lot about both the mindset of an entrepreneur and being a more effective coach. Here are some of the ideas I think you can benefit from too:

1) Lewis Howes recently said 'change the world by your example, not by your opinion'. We love to talk, right?! But how often do we translate it into action and practice what we preach? I often tell you learning is important to me - so travelling to LA to learn from great coaches is an example of me walking the talk.

What have you been talking about and not doing? Looking for a new job? Asking for a pay rise? Creating your own business? Lets make 2018 your year.

2) Everyone fears trying something new. At times we all suffer from imposter syndrome (a regular conversation with clients). The trick is to build courage and resilience so that you feel the fear and do it anyway.

The fear never goes away - high performers and successful entrepreneurs are just good at managing it. One tip is to keep moving - if you're always making small steps forward, fear finds it harder to keep up.

3) You can learn more in an hour of play than a year of conversation. Have you noticed how your eureka moments come at random times when your brain is more relaxed? In the shower, when you're at the gym, just before sleep.

Not when you're sat in a 3 hour meeting talking over the problem with colleagues. So how can you get more playin your life?

4) Role models are great, but if you can't find one go for it anyway. If Obama had waited for a role model exactly like him, he wouldn't have made President. Go and be the role model.

5) Being surrounded by people who are thriving changes your perspective. Have you got friends and colleagues who always seem to be in a positive frame of mind?

Take them for lunch next week and share their energy - it will give you both a boost.

I hope these ideas resonate with you too. Pick one that resonates - what action will you take this week?

Wishing you all the best
