How to think BIG

I think it's quite difficult to know where the edge is. By 'edge' I mean edge of our comfort zones.

We're told to dream big and set moonshot goals. But how do we know if the goals we are setting are stretching enough? Or if we're accidentally hanging out in our comfort zone? Particularly when a lot of us have learned behaviours to set achievable (realistic - what a dull word) goals.

Here's a couple of ideas to get you thinking BIG.

1) Phrase it as an impossible goal

Think of an impossible goal. How about to be on the Board within 5 years, to run a million pound business, to be interviewed in a broadsheet. What seems a bit crazy and far off?

If you think your goal is still a bit tame, double it or 10x it. Make it audacious.

Once you've got your big scary goal, your next job is simply to think what's the next right step to head in that direction. We're taking micro steps here - like buying a book, having a coffee with someone relevant, investing time in a related passion.

Multiple small steps in the right direction = success.

That's how entrepreneurs think. And it's possible for all of us.

2) Trick your mind into creating new bold beliefs

If your thinking is limited (don't take this personally - it can be difficult to shake off old thought patterns) or is often stuck in a loop, it's time to break the pattern. Perhaps you think 'I'm ready for a new role', quickly followed by 'but I don't know what I'll be good at'. This is the kind of thought pattern that can keep you busy thinking in circles with no progress.

One way to snap out of this is to write a list of things you WISH you believed. You need to phrase this in thePRESENT tense.

For example:
I am supremely confident
Everyone wants to hire me
Presenting comes easily to me.

Remember that there's no pressure here, because I'm not asking you to write what you believe to be true - I'm asking you to write what you wish you believed.

But what you're left with is a series of statements phrased as if they're live and believable now. Our subconscious mind doesn't distinguish whether something is true or not - it deals with what we present to it. So this list will start to re-wire your beliefs, starting to make the impossible possible.

I hope these 2 ideas help you to create bold goals for H2. I'd love to hear what you have planned - hit reply and let me know.

Wishing you all the best
